Compassionate professionals can unknowingly become traumatized while doing jobs they love. Helping, listening to or rescuing someone from a traumatic situation can stir up all sorts of feelings in the practitioner.   There is a simple solution to keep therapists, first responders, and coaches from becoming victims of vicarious trauma.

You love your job helping others through life’s drama, yet you’ll also be exposed to stories or scenes that can be traumatic, emotionally charged or even horrific.   You are there to help, trained to help and able to help, yet sometimes you may find yourself unintentionally getting pulled into the mayhem. Official terms for this include Compassion Fatigue or Vicarious Trauma.

The American Counseling Association states that Vicarious Trauma is not burnout, yet many of the unpleasant symptoms are the same. Strong feelings like anger or irritation, changes in appetite or emotional eating, losing sleep or worry that you did not do enough for the person you were trying to help.

If only there were something that could quickly calm your mind and still your emotions. If only there were something that would enable you to be fully present … to make clear, well-thought out decisions.

If only there were something that would allow you to stop the obsessive worries and get some sleep!

Well, there is.

It’s what I use every day to keep myself together so that I can be at my best for my clients. I consider it essential for being an ethical helping professional.

This miraculous intervention is not a drug. It’s not a breathing technique. It’s not meditation.

It’s Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as tapping or by the acronym EFT.

This simple process is backed by over 100 clinical studies and can be used before, after or as part of your client sessions to soothe emotions and interrupt the stress response. It’s a priceless tool to maximize a life of clarity and wellbeing. Your clients will benefit too.

You can learn more about EFT through dozens of videos on my NE Ohio Elite Experts Channel. Training in Emotional Freedom Techniques, with professional CE credit, can be delivered at your workplace. Let’s talk! Set up a free consultation using my online scheduler at the link below or follow upcoming events at #EFTwithBetsy.
