EFT Tapping and Emotional Freedom Techniques

Who benefits from using EFT?

EFT works well for a wide variety of people, and can be delivered conveniently as self-care or in a session facilitated by a practitioner. Certified practitioners can deliver sessions by phone, video call or face-to-face.  These are some of the populations that benefit most:

  • Clients in traditional psychotherapy/coaching relationships seeking MORE: Because EFT involves integrating talk therapy and a physical intervention to neutralize the stress response, it is a logical and appropriate add-on to traditional care. Research has shown that clients receiving EFT achieve desired results faster and experience lasting, often permanent improvements.
  • Mental/medical professionals: Becausethe gentle transformational power of EFT is easily integrated by medical and mental health practitioners into an existing practice, it can seamlessly improve outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Stressed out professionals: Most professionals love their work caring for others, but can become victims of vicarious trauma or compassion fatigue. EFT helps these professionals manage their stress, increase their resiliency, recover from setbacks faster, and become more productive on the job and at home.
  • People of all ages: EFT works for infinite human challenges like test anxiety, public speaking, sports performance, teen anxiety, stress headaches, PTSD, behavior problems and more. Toddlers, teens, college students, menopausal women, veterans, first responders, cancer survivors, those suffering from grief and even your pets can benefit from EFT.
What can you expect to occur during an EFT session?

All of Betsy’s private clients begin with a consultation call which is free.  This call determines if you are an appropriate client for my scope of expertise and help me understand your goals for our work together. I require all new clients to a commitment to 4 sessions, optimally scheduled at least once a week. For sessions with children, parents are included in each session at no additional charge.  On completion of our consult call, you will receive a written proposal for coaching including description of services, fees and expectations.

Depending upon the situation and your needs, we may choose to work together in my office, via the web using zoom video webinar technology or by phone.

Private EFT sessions are very similar to regular coaching or talk therapy.   You, the clientare in charge of choosing the problems we address.  It’s confidential and you can expect my undivided attention and curiosity.   I’ll strive to get to the root of what’s really affecting the situation. Initially you will tap with me, repeating the phrases I create for your situation and tapping on your own treatment points as you follow my lead.

Results with EFT can vary, however my typical clients experience relief within 1-2 sessions.  Often the results are immediate. I expect my clients to be partners in each session, honestly sharing their perceptions and feelings.  You may be assigned homework and will be expected to practice the use of EFT between sessions.   During our sessions, you will be empowered to speak up.  I will also provide you with feedback and tips to enhance your self-care beyond our sessions together.  My goal is always to empower your confidence so that you are comfortable using EFT independently and no longer need my help.

How does EFT work?

Numerous studies have demonstrated that emotions can have a significant impact on the physical body.  The exact mechanisms of how EFT works are being continually researched and evaluated by scientists at prestigious institutes throughout the world. More than 100 studies have been published, many of these randomized controlled trials, supporting the healing power of this versatile and gentle process.   There remains uncertainty in the research community as to exactly how and why EFT is so effective, but there is consensus and evidence that tapping deactivates the stress response in the part of the brain called the amygdala, resulting in a significant reduction in the stress hormone cortisol.  The use of words and phrases, when combined with tapping of acupressure treatment points, appears to enhance blood flow to the pre-frontal cortex area of the brain so that logical processes take place more effectively.  As neuroscience continues to develop and measurement tools such as functional MRI are used in research, these mechanism will be more fully understood.
