Every business needs to charge for the goods and services it provides. My business is no different. Clearly to stay in business, fees are set to make sure expenses are covered and to reflect the value of the goods or services provided.

In spite of the set fees, do I ever make exceptions or offer sliding scale for people who might not be able to afford the full fee?

The answer is MAYBE.

When would I consider saying yes to a request for a discount?

• Financial hardship or limited income
• Willingness to offer something (time, service, help) in exchange for service
• When there is room within a program to add another person at minimal cost
• When someone asks sincerely and is willing to do their part to make this a win for us both

Occasionally I am asked to modify speaking fees to help fit the budget of the meeting planner and will seriously consider this when the organization demonstrates their case and stands for a cause I feel strongly about too.

Being generous is something I choose. My business plan from day one included the statement that I would donate 10% or more of my income to charities. Every private coaching client contract has a space on page one to nominate a charity you would like me to consider. I also allow Indigo Connection Members to bring first time guests to the monthly breakfast events at no charge. Sometimes I offer 2 for one deal for a limited time too. If you are on my mailing list, you’ll get word of these special offers. Discounts and special rates have helped my business grow, served the community and raised awareness about our very positive organization.

I hope this post is helpful to you. If you want to attend an event or explore working with me, but would like to discuss fees, the best thing you can do is ASK and let’s have a conversation about what you need. I believe my rates are fair, yet I will hear your case and allow a solution to emerge that works for both of us.

There are some really nice events, including a women’s retreat, bus tour and our monthly breakfast coming up this week at the Indigo Connection. I also have room for up to 2 new private clients this month. Don’t let your financial worries keep you from joining us.

Your job is to ASK! Send your requests to Betsy@theindigoconnection.com and let’s have that conversation.
