Today is the last day of school for my daughter and all of the other students in our district. It’s funny how that collective energy of all those excited kids hits me as I consider that summer really starts tomorrow for my household and so many people.
There are always a few mixed feelings for parents – now that the kids have more time on their hands. Sleeping patterns shift, new activities come into life with summer sports, camps and the opening of the swimming pools. Vacations and days off will be taken. That is the beauty of summer and the promise of those warm days ahead.
Summer is among my favorite seasons as a gardener and a person who loves being outside in nature (without the distraction of freezing, chapping and shivering). I am reminding myself now to really pay attention to each day and to use my precious summer wisely.
I promised myself these 10 things today to create my BEST summer ever:
1. I will awaken early each day
2. I’ll do my morning journal outside whenever possible
3. I will exercise or walk outside, and include my dog Gracie
4. I’ll sit on my front bench and watch the world go by
5. I’ll book time on my calendar for outdoor fun and trips to Lake Erie
6. I’ll share my summer expectations with my kids and ask them to help me
7. I’ll grill often
8. I’ll take my laptop outdoors
9. I’ll do more ponytails and dress comfortably
10. I’ll ask clients if they want to move coaching sessions under the tent outside
I’ll be heading out for a vacation cruise next week – so summer will be off to a fantastic start. As for the rest of the summer, look for me outside!
