Have you ever had a period of time when you felt a bit “off”, unwell or had your sense of drive about life, business and work suddenly seem to be lagging?

A series of client inquiries, calls from my children and encounters with my most conscious friends during the past two weeks made me more curious about the turbulent energy our planet is experiencing this month. Not only did I discover there were there several solar flares last week, but also a recent solar and lunar eclipse! On top of that, the Farmer’s Almanac confirms that Earth is also experiencing another Mercury retrograde (Oct. 21-Nov. 10, 2013), which can distort communication and cause electrical devices to go haywire. Do you feel any better knowing this? Probably not!

As a creature of earth, you and I may feel differently because the earth’s energy has shifted suddenly in a big way. This shift has resulted in a disruption from your natural grounding connection to earth. Because all this happens without the earth shaking or anything visible to alert you to it, you might not notice right away. Even those of us who are typically excellent at being grounded become ungrounded! The more sensitive you are, the more you may feel it. We all go through it from time to time. I’m experiencing a bit of it too and it frustrates the living daylights out of me!

Five Great Ways to Get Grounded and Stay Grounded

1. Lay on your back or place yourself in Child’s Pose (see http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/475) for 5-10 minutes. Breathe deeply with closed eyes and set the intention that you are reconnecting to earth.

2. Connect with a 4-legged friend – Your cat or dog has 4 legs for grounding and does a great job at it. Take 5 minutes to pet your furry friend as you sit with your feet flat on the floor. Enjoy the fur and the wet kisses too.

3. Walk in Nature – Go outdoors and walk around. Admire natural beauty. Touch a tree and feel the earth under your feet. If you can’t physically get outdoors, look out the window and enjoy images of nature as you sit with you feet flat on the floor.

4. Eat Root Vegetables – Carrots, turnips, celery root, beets and sweet potatoes are great foods to give your body nourishment and to also bring it grounding energy. If you find yourself craving the sugar and carbs, try root vegetables first.

5. Exercise Vigorously – Cardiovascular fitness awakens your entire body with breath, blood flow and a strong balancing connection to earth. Becoming ungrounded will often cause you resist exercise, however DO IT ANYWAY. Exercise is a very effective way to establish the strongest and most lasting grounding re-connection.

Have fun experimenting and stay curious about those invisible forces that make life interesting. Try these suggestions and let me know how you feel. You may never be able to control the planet, but you can control your ability to be resilient in awareness and reconnection.
