The Indigo Connection’s 5th annual retreat has concluded and it was our best yet. These intelligent, curious, spiritually-inclined women took on the weekend for a wide variety of reasons and came away with what they needed because they chose well, accepted the messages, and helped one another process challenges as they courageously let their hearts open up – to love themselves more purely and to extend that love to others. As we conclude each year, I caution that traveling out into the real world with an open heart can be both vulnerable and exhilarating. An open heart can be broken, yet an open heart has the power to create miracles, facilitate connections and exert an amazing influence. I advise that they be gentle on themselves, asking for an extra “Diamond Shield™” of protection – transparent, hard and sparkling. The open, shielded heart sends, attracts and receives infinitely!
I too am mindful of my need to carefully re-enter the bigger world I return to. I planned to stop at my favorite nursery in Huron, Mulberry Creek Herb Farm, on my drive home. It was lovely to make this stop at a time when this lovely organic nursery was slow due to the rain and chilly temperature.
It was a treat to reconnect with Karen, the owner of this family operation and a true friend. Our love of plants, nature and a good laugh is something that allows us to connect easily. I was grateful she had time to talk and catch up with me. On this wet Sunday, I also met JoAnne, an employee there who waited on me as I was checking out. JoAnne had been listening to my conversation with Karen as she worked nearby. When I approached the counter, we began light conversation about the retreat. I revealed that I work with energy and the human soul. JoAnne then shared that she had recently lost her husband to cancer. Immediately our connection deepened.
JoAnne and I shared a long and precious conversation about grief, letting go, pets and loss. It reminds me that because I opened to reveal myself, it allowed an opening for her reveal as well. What did she see in me to share so much with a stranger? She must have felt safe as she saw the presence and respect in my eyes. She experienced the entrainment of my heart as it reached out to hers. She let down her guard to a stranger, and by doing so she amplified her own heart signal as she shared her truth.
JoAnne’s curiosity about the spirit world prompted me to recommend a few excellent books, including Journey of Souls by Michael Newton PhD. She eagerly jotted these down as I completed my purchase.
JoAnne helped me to the car with my plants and thanked me, as her eyes filled with tears. We exchanged a big hug – former strangers now connected at the heart. Was my radiance amplified because of the retreat? Of course it was! Had God created a divine moment for this energy to make a difference for JoAnne? Undeniably YES.
I wonder what the rest of my retreat partners experienced as they returned home? I suspect it was amazing too.
