Anyone visiting my home office has been warmly greeted by my friendly receptionist, Grace. Not your typical office worker, Grace is a golden retriever, just 4 years old.
I added this 8 week old puppy into my life the same week I quit my last job and before I started my present business. This puppy was a rather impulsive purchase, adopted as a “replacement dog” which is something the dog experts advise not to do.
I certainly had my reasons for needing a puppy. I needed to fill the void in my heart that emerged when my 4 year old Golden Retriever, “Kelly” died in my arms the same day she was diagnosed with tumors on her heart. I was heartbroken by this loss which unfortuantely also fell on my birthday. What kind of a gift was this? It was one of those dark days I will never forget. I wondered how this loss could ever be part of God’s divine plan. It seemed so extremely unfair and cruel that my dog was taken from me.
I needed “Grace” and this new furry energy came to my life when I had time and motivation to tend to a puppy. I could easily raise and train this little one while I settled into my new entrepreneurial life.
What a blessing it turned out to be. It really was part of a bigger picture.
Gracie loves people and she has a way of making my visitors feel welcome. She especially likes leaning on their feet when they come in. “Leaning” is how she absorbs energy and gets to know people. Most folks seem to like Grace because she is gentle and joyful. Once she’s had a minute or so to do her greeting, I usually command her to “go away” – and she actually follows my command. Now that’s a good dog!
It’s kind of interesting that I have not yet had a visitor who didn’t like animals. I suppose that must be the Law of Attraction in full force. I can’t imagine life, and especially working from my home office without Grace around.
Gracie is a constant companion, often sleeping at my feet. She doesn’t seem to mind when my chair runs over her tail or when I must ignore her. She’s quiet and patient, knowing that I usually don’t have time to walk or play during regular business hours.
Each day I am grateful for my silent 4-legged partner and for the way she makes me feel. This furry, friendly energy is an asset to my life, my home and my business.
