In my coaching practice, I am openly spiritual. On the other hand, I am very careful not to impose my spiritual beliefs on my clients – especially when we are first getting to know one another. A client’s unique religious and spiritual beliefs are something I seek to understand from a place of deep respect as we begin to establish a relationship. Connecting with a client’s beliefs and values allows me to know what as shaped this person’s relationship to people, life and their surroundings. This helps me access the best way to be of help.
On Thursday I was strongly directed to pray aloud with each client at the close of every coaching session. It had never occured to me to do that before. I have used silent prayer before, during and after sessions, but never taken the time to vocally initiate it in session. The message coming to me now emphasized how important it is for clients to know that a prayer is generously directed to them in their presence, and that praying openly is also a way to anchor the healing that takes place in the session. As someone who gets more and more comfortable with the unseen guideance that comes my way, I chose to immediately obey the message.
As I initiated the closing prayer with clients on Thursday and Friday, I was pleased to discover that these prayers were recieved with immense positive emotion. The words of these special prayers flowed easily. The gesture of prayer was received as though it was a specially selected gift. It provided a warm and loving energetic seal to carry each client into the challenges of real life.
I intend to ask for permission to offer pray at the end of coaching sessions. and I expect most people will happily accept. Although there was once a time when suggesting prayer in session would have felt uncomfortable for me, today it feels right and natural. I am grateful for the nudge to change my way of coaching and accept this ritual with sincere appreciation.
Dear Betsy
I just finished reading two articles posted in the “Baby Steps” portion of your web site. As a spiritual coach, I was delighted to read how others understood two very important principles. One “receiving is a blessing,” and “ending with a prayer.” As a Christian and spiritual coach, I believe many barriers which has kept people from enjoying their fullest potential as wives, husbands and professionals, has been because they really have not fully grasped “that it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Understanding that your giving allows you to receive, sometimes and often more than you gave. I loved when you talked about being lead to close your session with prayer. I love to see people step out in faith and doing what I call the Holy Spirit calling them to do. Good Show!! As a coach, our job is to encourage and motivate others, but sometimes we need the same amount or more of the same encouragement. So I applaud you for moving to another level in your spiritual walk.
Last month, I launched my own coaching network organization. When you get an opportunity check it out. I often tell other, I have modeled my organizational set-up after yours. I also encourage them to visit your web site. I think you are doing a fantastic job and has really stretched out which was evident in your blog. Maybe someday when we both have the time, we can sit down and talk. Take care, and God Bless you, your husband and children, and your business.
