It is possible that the very best way to do something really well is to first fail miserably at it? If you are anything like me, that thought is rather unpleasant. I confess to be a perfectionist, both at home and in my business. The prospect of failing, looking ridiculous or “sucking” on the stage or in front of my friends and business associates is probably the most painful thing I can imagine. The interesting thing is that I have decided to risk “sucking” more every day, and have been able to let go of my perfectionist tendencies as I take more chances at things I don’t yet do very well. The good news is that taking chances has brought me some great connections, new skills, publicity and new friends.
Is risk-free perfectionism an issue for you too? See if you can answer “yes” to any of the following questions:
Do you worry about trying something new because you might not do it right?
Have you thought about starting a blog, but never got going because you though somebody might criticize your ideas or say your writing wasn’t any good?
Are you holding back from using youtube or videos to promote your ideas or your business?
Do you avoid beening seen due to concerns about your appearance?
Does the thought of using new programs or technological devices bring on anxiety?
Have you seen other people post online content and thought to yourself that it’s way beyong your grasp?
If you can’t do it perfectly, do you choose to do nothing?
That’s not perfectionism – that’s procrastination, just another word for FEAR. “DARE TO SUCK” anyway! Releasing that need to be perfect and taking a more action-oriented approach is liberating. It’s never as bad as you expected it would be.
Each one of us is here with a role, unique gifts and a message to share with the world. It is your God-given destiny to share who you are with the world. By staying silent and failing to take action, failure is guaranteed. Instead, “Dare to Suck” and you’ll increase your odds at success!!!! Dare to SUCCEED in 2011!
