Exploring a Reset for the New Year
Would you like to be healthier, clearer, more productive and leaner in 2023? The new year brings many possibilities to support greater health and joy. If you've gained inches, particularly in the belly region, this may be insulin resistance or pre-diabetes. Even with daily exercise and a healthy diet, it happens, particularly for women after menopause. How do I know? That's exactly where I was when my doctor told me my fasting glucose was too high after my last physical. She suggested I exercise more, and I wanted to punch her (but refrained). I sought the help of a registered dietician and made a few changes, but my belly remained most of the year. I even tried intermittent fasting from 6:30 PM - 11:30 AM for week after week on her recommendation. That works for many women, but it didn't for me.. It was only after I invested in wearing a continuous glucose monitor for a month that I began to understand what was going on in my body. It was also during that month that my dietitian urged me to try a 24 hour fast. Once I did that, the pounds started gradually melting and my glucose finally stabilized. Was it hard? I expected it would be, but with mindful preparation, it was surprisingly easy. I was delighted to also experience a very clear focus and high productivity on my fasting days as a bonus.
