Instead of having one word for the year, I’ve decided to explore a word each month as a theme for insight, connection and growth. The word for February is PEACE.

As I’ve pondered this word, the reality of pain in our world has me rattled. It’s interesting that very single new client who has come to me this month uses the word “anxiety” on their intake form. No two are the same, yet I soon realize this word is certainly the opposite of peace. Our medical system gives them pills to help them sleep and to take the edge off their racing thoughts. I teach them to breathe in new ways, to use Emotional Freedom Techniques to accept all the feelings and deactivate their stress response with exercises that calm the mind. Helping them brings me peace, and recognizing these pleasant moments seems to amplify the good feeling.

On Valentine’s Day I connected with many people grieving lost love or experiencing a sense of loneliness. Thanks to our luncheon speaker Carolyn Weislogel, I witnessed the faces of dozens of ladies melt into bliss as they strummed Angel Harps for the first time. I return home to flowers from my husband and a quiet setting. Gratitude wells up as I take time to savor a cup of coffee and watch the squirrels raid the bird feeder. I realize how fortunate I am both as a witness to and a recipient of peace.

Minutes later my peace is interrupted as I learn of yet another mass shooting at a school in Florida. I wonder to myself how those self-described anxious ones are handling this news.

Peace really must be an inside job. It’s easy for those interruptions to rob us of peaceful moments. The more of us who find reliable ways to bask in peaceful feelings and can reach out to comfort others are the ones who can and will transform this world to a more peaceful one. The card chosen from Barbara Stone’s Radiant Life Deck for the benefit of our women’s luncheon gathering was “Holding My Space” and now I see it as a Divine reminder that each of us must hold our space now more than ever.

You can recognize and hold more space for peace today. Here are 5 simple ways:

Find something visually beautiful and stare at it for 1 minute as you slow your breath
– Close your eyes for 30 seconds and bring up a beautiful memory
Move your body – a great option for just about anyone is the 5 minute Energy Routine from Eden Energy Medicine
– Relieve physical tension and stress by tapping on your EFT meridian treatment points with a simple reminder phrase.  Learn more about this amazing healing process at the FREE ONLINE World Tapping Summit
Share a long hug with someone needing peace

Peace starts with me and it also starts with you. Trust that when you recognize and allow peace, it can be amplified and shared.
